Just look at the players view of this, I mean how awesome does that look? Not to mention its ash sound is divine. My friend was here visiting this past weekend, and he plays guitar. So I had him try all of mine out and it’s the first time since acquiring my D46 that I got to hear someone else play it. Holy smokes, as an audience member I was blown away by how clear and balanced it projected, and so full of sustain, that I was smitten with it all over again. IMO these are spectacular Guilds.

Recordings of a D46 here:

I'd call it kind of a very tight, focused Maple sound. It kind of reminds me of the piano-like tones you get from a carbon fiber guitar, but with more organic overtones.

I recorded a demo of the song I wrote for my wife with the D46, I will try to post it in the members music section 👍

I love that review, and a pleasure to read it again. I dig the Jethro Tull, I’m going to have to learn some more of their stuff. Got Aqualung going, that’s about it.

Man, I wish I had one of those.

Oh, wait.... Never mind!

I describe mine as sounding "like rosewood, only more so."
Wowza, look at those wide grain patterns along the sides of yours, hot dang that is gorgeous! Let someone else play yours and sit back and I guarantee you can't help but break out in a big grin 😁

I once had a very good player play my '84 D64 at an open mic. I said to myself, "so THAT'S how it's supposed to sound!". I agree it gives you a whole new perspective...

It really does, surprisingly so. Like when we buy a guitar, assuming we can play it, we should ask someone around to play it too.
I remember when I was selling my Santa Cruz dread, this local bluegrass player ended up buying it. He came over and hung out in living room, playing it for over an hour. He even put on a new set of EJ17s. He was very serious about making sure it was what he wanted. He even brought along his old D-18 for me to play and check out. (ridiculously high action, it was in rough shape).

Anyway, this guy was incredible player. And I was blown away with how good that SC sounded.

He goes: "I am looking for a beater acoustic to take on my overseas tour in the fall".
Woody: "But it's a santa cruz. You think that is a beater?"
Pete: "It will do nicely..."

lol

I have, Boneman, and that is exactly what happened!

The first time I showed up with it at our local Open Mic, the sound guy told me to give it a couple strums after I plugged in. So I hit a couple of Ems, and he about fell off his chair. He squinted towards me and said, "What the hell is that?" "An old Guild," I said. "Well, you got one of the good ones," he said, whatever that means.

I came down after my short set and had three guys waiting for me to have a look at the guitar and ask me about it. One of them was totally amazed that I had the original case, lol.

I keep mine tuned down half a step, so it is extra-rumbly. And it has a K&K in it.

There is one of these listed in my area on Craigslist. It's been listed for a while. I have been thinking it might be worth a look.

What do you all think?
What is that strange thing above the bridge? Seller mentions it in the description.

Thanks!

Worth a look, not sure about the bridge, looks to be some sort of shim, or maybe the bridge was removed and reglued and they used that moustache to hide the scar if there was a resultant finish flaw?
What is ash wood? Is it maple?
Taken from the internet:
Ash is a very strong and dense hardwood that typically features straight grain and light colour. Sonically is produces more treble and good sustain which results in a brighter and more pronounced tone than some other tone woods. Swamp ash in particular is lighter than its relative Northern Ash and has larger, open pores. It produces chiming highs, clear midrange and strong low end that lets higher overtones ring through, resulting in greater harmonic content.
