I took a leap and purchased this guitar from a pawnshop via Ebay a couple of weeks back. It definitely had some red flags - low saddle, indentation under the pick guard - but it was kind of love at first sight. In the end I'm glad I made the purchase - the guitar plays and sounds amazing.
Not sure of the year but I'm guessing it's a 1970. The serial number is not on the charts. I think it's a Westerly built guitar with a Hoboken label. If I'm lucky perhaps Hans can confirm : )
Edit: Hans just confirmed this is indeed a 1970 Westerly-made guitar. THANK YOU Hans!

Thanks! Yeah, it's a little dinged up but it's a pretty guitar. Just hoping that neck holds for a while! The action is perfect now but there is not much saddle left to work with if it does shift.

I am with you on the 1970 and Westerly. While the chart shows the serial number change occurring for 1970 Hans has said that the change did not happen immediately, i.e. January 1, 1970 and that some "prefixed" serial numbers that are off the chart were 1970.

Very attractive grain on that top!
You may be interested to know that my D212 from 1982 has had a very low saddle for the past 20 years, without any worsening of the action over that time. I keep it tuned down 1/2 step, and often use low tension strings to ensure it stays that way.

Sweet! That’s in nice shape. I have a ‘69, serial #2320, with lots more wear.

Nice. I really do like the body shape and size of the F212. This body is what I think of when I here the term “folk” guitar. I see this body shape in old western movies. My big round jumbo F212XL body just isnt what I picture when I hear “folk”. JF212XL would’ve probably been more suited for it back then. Must be comfortable playing seated, verses the 212XL. And that big 12er neck and headstock makes that body look like an OM guitar. It think it has a great look👍

Yeah. I love my F212XL, such a big sound but this F212 is much less work to play, almost like a 6-string. While the sound isn't as huge or as deep as the XL it is quite wonderful, very clear and resonant. I'm really enjoying it. And yes, very comfy to play seated. Note that like many Guild acoustics the body shape of the F212 was revised in 1972. I much prefer the pre-1972 body shape.

The first time I picked up the '65 F-212 I was thinking about buying (in my current avatar) I was surprised at its lightness and resonance. The next thing I realized was that it felt like my New Hartford F-47R in my lap. I love my Tacoma F-412, but if I had to choose...even with that flat 2" classical fingerboard I think I'd go with the F-212. I have to admit sentiment plays a part--the widow from whom I bought it said her husband had purchased it new
before they were married, and that she'd held on to it after he's died hoping that one of her children would be interested in taking up guitar. She finally realized that was never going to happen and as I've mentioned before she's thrilled whenever I send her a recording our band has done using "Harlan's guitar". I wish Guild would remake the F-312 even if it's made of EIR. Oooh--a MAPLE F-212!

Thanks for that spoox, yeah I like this guitar a lot. It's got me thinking I will need to trade in one of my dreads for an F47! Love that body shape.
