Rippin it up on a Dearmond SF - some fresh country rock'n'roll

If you dig their stuff, they came out with a new album today "Listen to the Blood" and they're currently on tour and tickets are typically very cheap! They're coming through my little town in FL on 2/4. Looking forward to seeing them live!

Ingo, I'm not sure if I sent along a photo of my '99 DA Starfire after it was Dark Starred with the pickup you pointed me to on eBay, along with the one I bought from you, but here it is.



It came out perfect, and sounds great, even thought the poles on the bridge pup don't line up perfectly. It's almost sacrilegious to say, but to my ears it sounds a bit better than Greenie. And I'm not afraid to play this one out!

That looks killer! And yes, my DarkStar'd DeArmond Starfire's bridge poles were slightly narrow too, due to the slightly wider spaced reissue bridge, but it really didn't affect the sound at all. I think it would only become an issue in the neck position where all that big booty low fundamental comes from.
My guess is that the main difference in sound between greenie and the DA is the pickups. DarkStar pickups are definitely a bit more articulate and less bassy than the vintage Hagstrom Bisonics. Different flavor and I find myself preferring one or the other depending on the sonic context of the song or group I'm playing with. My 1970 has a Dark Star in the neck position and a Novak vintage-spec Bisonic in the bridge. I've found that to be the most pleasing combination to my ears.

Love 'em. Very hooky song. Wish they'd have put his DeArmond up in the mix a little more during the solo, my only complaint.
