My friend gave me this guitar yesterday --- I took him to see the Rolling Stones at SoFi Stadium. Came with a real Guild gig bag too. Apparently the S 100 without a mini toggle is 1971 or earlier. Happy with the arrangement. Would like to find replacement knobs and tremolo bar but it seems they are about $100.00 for the knobs and $100.00 for the bar. Anyone have any leads on a better price for these?

You may want to request a moderator move this to the Buy, Sell, Trade section or just make a new WTB thread there.

Hello Forrest! You must be Forrest George, the son of Lowell George, from the band Little Feat. Welcome to LTG! You and I are friends on Facebook, thru the music community. Amazing score on the Guild. I actually own the same exact guitar, along with a few other members here. Can probably help you with the parts you need. will send you a message. -Eric

Congrats! That’s quite the “Thank you” from your friend. I own a lefty 1970 S-100 and it is a killer guitar. Blows my SG out of the water. Please post more pics etc when you can. I wonder how close your serial # is to mine. The color looks near identical.

Yes, that is me. I called Guild in Santa Monica --- the fellow there said newer knobs and newer tremolo bar likely will not fit on a vintage instrument. He recommended I join this Guild forum. He was right. Seems to be some great folks in here. Very helpful.

Yours is way cleaner than mine. LOL! Plus, a lefty is always going to command a higher price, as you surely are well aware. No serial numbers on the guitar. Someone scratched them out, looks to be a very long time ago. The guitar was left at my friend Alan's work --- West L.A. Studios (rehearsal studio) over a decade ago. They have since closed their doors for good. I was told that Buzzy Feiten had brought it to him. Dude has played with everybody! Check it out. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buzz_Feiten

Welcome.

There is a policy that requests posters to contribute cash or posts before posting a For Sale ad. As implemented that also applies to posting Want To Buy as well. So you couldn't have posted in WTB until your post count increased even if you had wanted. 4 more posts and you want need a mod's help :)

There is a lot of anecdotal experience that says new, Newark Street parts do not fit vintage instruments and that the current Guild ownership rarely has the sight answer for anything Guild did before 2010. So in this case you actually got the right answer from Guild.

Ken Nash http://www.theguitarmechanic.com/ worked for Guild and has a stash of old parts. You might check with him. But you may have to accept a substitute or pay the Big Bucks.

The mini-toggle is a phase switch. The S-100's bass brother, the JS, seemed to change specs monthly during 1970 and didn't really stabilize until 1971 so the absence does suggest '70 or early '71 to me. A serial number and more pictures would get you a better opinion than mine :)

We mods decided to move it. If there are visibility issues while @ForrestGeorge builds up posts, please let us know.
You guys are awesome. This is all very confusing to me. LOL! Apparently, there are different splines for the knobs depending if they are metric or otherwise. I guess I would pay $50.00 for the damn knob and maybe $100.00 for the tremar arm. Crazy.

Yes, as a lefty, I’m sadly and acutely aware the premium I pay. Or comic, considering the pool of lefty guitarists is much smaller, so the “demand” for a vintage lefty shouldn’t be any higher than an equivalent righty. Ah well. The price I paid for this one was high by righty standards, but less than most brand new Gibsons, which this guitar would eat for breakfast….
That’s a cool story about your S-100. Anyways, beat up is awesome, as long as it has real history to go with it. As long as Buzz didn’t modify that guitar with his special nut and tuning system…

1 Volume knob is missing.

Looks like they put the tone knob where a volume knob should be. LOL

The present production knobs are metric. The shafts are 6mm, and the number of splines inside are 18, as opposed to the stock 1/4 ", 24 spline originals.

Replaced tuners. A few dings. All in all, pretty nice. Original frets look due for replacement. Mine had original low frets like this when I got it, and bending was nearly impossible. Got it refretted with some 6105’s and now it plays so well I almost feel guilty…
