Used to play wallpaper jazz at restaurants with a trio, using a ‘90’s Guild X-150 Savoy.
I miss it (only play at home these days) for its woody Jazz friendly tone. It had a wooden bridge, and humbuckers.
Wondering about the current production X-350. The current X-50 intrigues me as well.
Also wondering about sourcing a wood type bridge. Thanks

Wallpaper Jazz saves lives when food is bad and dinner guests are boring! Cool guitar, though too many white pups for my tastes....

Guild has informed me that mine wasn’t wired correctly, so the section on controls may not be indicative of all models. I have a nee harness and just need to time to put it in.

Re: the wooden bridge, I'm not sure how much wear the Guildsby would cause. You could just swap it out though.

Welcome! You could look for a recent X175, similar pickups (only 2 of them) and a wooden bridge with no Guildsby:

Or just look for a 90's X150 or X150D like you used to have.

There are multiple on Reverb, just make sure the offered guitar comes with the Original Hardshellcase.

And if you prefer humbuckers Jeff had the right proposal with the X-150 or X-150D.

Thank you all!

Interesting shopping ahead I see. The x350 is intriguing still, however I will broaden my selection criteria.

I have a recent Gretsch Anniversary, but the trestle bracing limits the body’s “softness” somewhat for so-called “jazz” tone.

I always like to look of those, but having owned a Gretsch, the wiring scheme just drives me insane. And not in a good way.

Agreed. One of the reasons I've never put the Guildsby I have on my X170 is I would have to replace the wooden bridge with some kind of roller bridge.

I’m not a great jazz player, but my new(ish) X-175 gets a great warm Wes-like tone. I continue to be impressed with this guitar; as has any of my friends that have played it.
You should try and play one and see if you like it.

Gretsches are nice in their way, but not for me in a live venue. I need simple.
For home it’s OK (pretty much what I do now, except for an occasional bass call),
but there’s a reason I generally used a Telecaster if I didn’t know what I was getting into on a club date.

Very encouraging. Yes, the X-175 might be a better direction. Tks!

I have the Newark Street X-175B and the X-350. Both have tune-o-matic bridge and Guildsby. Both are great. I have the X-175B strung with rounds and the X-350 strung with flats. I use the middle pickup on the X-350 to soften the tone for rhythm chords. I really like this feature. So, I'd probably choose the X-350 if I only had one. I haven't done an apples to apples on using two pickups only with identical strings. I never use the Guildsby. I also thought about swapping out for a wooden bridge and harp tailpiece. But I like the sustain I get with the factory configuration.

If you like humbuckers and a woodier, fat darker Jazz tone, I'd say look for a Westerly X150.
If you're not in a hurry, they come up on ebay and reverb for great prices, and even though I like the current Korean archtops, a westerly X150 would be the better guitar, and if you get tired of it, you could probably sell it for what you paid for it .

What's the difference between the X-150 and X-170? I have 1999 X-170 that I love for the fat neck. And I like the jazzy tone of the Fender HB-1's.
