Just checked another XenForo board I use. The Preview button seems to be a stupid looking icon that is easily mistaken for "search a document" but is in the upper right area of the editing window.

The edit bar is also grayed out there so maybe my browser doesn't like XenForo or visa versa. I will continue to investigate.

No, that does not work correctly as in your above example the Name of the person who made the statement is not shown.
Copy that, Ralf. I understand.

I think the only way to do what you described would be to hit the "toggle BBcode" button and hand-type(copy/paste) in the quote and end-quote code stuff. Best wishes!

Toggling BB code grays out the editing controls. I have no idea why.

Apparently the toggle BB code button is the same as the old gear button that disabled the controls. I find this less than intuitive.

This setting is saved per device.

I pressed Reply. Something I did since posting earlier turned the BB code off, so maybe the setting is a sticky user preference?

I also note that my editing tool bar is grayed out. How will I ever color code my moderation? I also note that the option to preview my post, before submitting, is now missing. I only get a Post reply button.

Screenshot from before some spelling correction.

OK. I untoggled the BB and I now can edit and have GREEN. That seems to be lousy UI design but at least I know that I need to pick between BB code off and editing. This is probably not an issue anymore.
So now we need to piss you off, to see if it works?? Just asking for a friend.......

Sadly, it does not allow you to copy the same quote twice within the same buffer,

Sadly, it does not allow you to copy the same quote twice within the same buffer,

Ha, took my a while but now I made it work, see above 3 quote examples! Dead easy! Now I know what frono and Chazmo tried telling me with "Toggle BB code" !!! I had no idea that pressing this button gives me the "code" window back!

So the easy way to achive the above 3 quote copies is:

1) Hit Reply to the message to reply to.

2) Press the "Toggle BB code" button:

3) Manually copy the now visible code quote as often as required:

4) Press the "Toggle BB code" button again to come back to the WYSIWYG view.

Hint: When pressed the "Toggle BBB code" button you cannot copy paste pictures, this is only possible in the WYSIWYG view.

Well, because in the new XenForo when in the "code" mode editor you manually write your code (either/or but not a mixed mode) and can't have buttons doing it for you. The buttons only make really sense in the WYSIWYG editor mode.

Comparing my experience to another XenForo board, I note that the Toggle BB code icon appears in the editing tool bar there. Here you have to press the three dots and it appears in the sub bar or whatever the term should be. I could make a case that there is room to just expand the contents of the right most three dot menu so the are part of the tool bar.

No, not the case for me. The icon is big and visible in the edit window:

Now if you work in a smaller window the icons disappear one by one, but if you work on the full screen you see all icons.

My "workaround" in post #51 using the "Toggle BB code" button is really not necessary at all, now I found the much easier way!
From the current "EDIT" window you simply scroll up to any post you want to quote and press "Reply" there and that way it inserts itself into the current "EDIT" window wherever your cursor position was!
Now Simply move the cursor to the next position where you want the next quote to be, go back to the message you want to quote and hit reply again. Can be done multiple times and achieves the same result! Sometimes it can be so easy...
It also works over multiple pages! Amazing!

Yeah, you're right. But I do get frustrated with essential controls that are hidden when the browser is using only 3/4 of the display and don't show up until the browser is set to use the full screen.

In my day, when you walked uphill both ways to get to the data center because that was where your terminals was, and vi (or EMACS) was the state of the art for building HTML pages, that didn't happen :)

I agree that I find the new dynamic control layout needlessly frustrating, but that’s sadly the nature of modern mobile-first web design.

The good news is that I can change it, so if there’s a cry to move something around it is possible.

Hey, just wondering if anyone else has noticed that the "Alerts" (the bell shaped icon) used to reset at regular intervals so I only got recent stuff and the older stuff would drop off. Now I've got a huge scroll of them from the past two days. Is it just me??

Thank you for using the word "terminal"! Another flood of weird memories there!

Drag and drop really has nothing to do with BB code, as it’s more likely a function of javascript. I think they’ve misnamed the “toggle bb-code” button purposefully to dumb it down since it also happens to do that. Grumble.
