Ray suggested I give them a whirl in some thread I had going. I bought a pack of .12-.53 Nano PBs. Pretty much the most popular string for acoustics if you go to many of the string buying sites re both Customer Reviews and Popularity. Ray does a lot of fingerstyle too, and as I leave my pick days behind, I am playing way more fingerstyle on the D35 and the F30R. So not so concerned about string shedding, my main complaint over the years re Elixir.
Well, after reaching my wager date with Al, I put the Elixirs on my '83 D35, as the D'A EJ16s on the F30R and the Br still have lots of life left. I know, right? I am winning the battle of OCD and string changing me thinks...
And wow! What a difference these strings make. As good sounding as EJ16s but the Elixir PBs seem to have a better snap and tension to them that allows for a stronger attack. I do not explain things very well, I apologize. But, just wow, Ray was right on.
Now, the cost is bit more, but the Elixirs should help me not change strings so much. Still, it really is about the awesome powerful tone and string feel. I am a fan.
I plan to string up all my Guilds with these strings over the next couple months, once the EJ16s wear out. YMWV of course but wowzer!
