Same issue on most of them.Kinda sloppy screws on this one though, they don't seem to be properly countersunk.
It does says “Hand made” after all!Nice, I had no idea what he was talking about. Kinda sloppy screws on this one though, they don't seem to be properly countersunk.
That seems to be the probem here! Since I'm an owner of a bolt on neck Guild now as well I noticed that the 4 holes were definitely not drilled using a drill press but drilled free hand, so each hole is crooked and out of center, hence the screw heads cannot sit into the countersunk area correctly. At least on my guitar...It does says “Hand made” after all!
I just put the neck plate on the neck area and you see that nothing fits...at least on my guitar.

what guitars are these plates on? Does a regular black plate fit? That is surprising!I just put the neck plate on the neck area and you see that nothing fits...at least on my guitar.

Yes. I have also seen them on Pilot Basses and Flyers...
If memory serves it was a 35th anniversary thing for Guild? Mine was an '87 so I'd think Guilds with bolt-on necks from '87 would be where to look.
...
No. The holes were drilled at random angles through the body and landed at random positions in the neck which has nothing to do with the neckplate itself. That's why you would use a good drill press for that job to get perfectly seated holes at 90 deg angles to the neck pocket...Today obviously CNC programmed in any factory environment.Does a regular back plate fit?

That would drive me crazy. I'd be plugging and re-drilling, for sure.I just put the neck plate on the neck area and you see that nothing fits...at least on my guitar.

I know, that was also my thought already. But she is that way since 42 years now and as long as the screws and the neck are solid set it's o.k. for me. Cosmetically the out of line neck plate and the slightly tilted screw heads bother me as well, but that repair has no priority at all. Plus I don't have a good drill press with large enough table at home, and I am hesitant to give this out of my hands, I would like to do such a repair definitely by myself. I had slightly negative experience with 3 different luthiers in the past who did repairs on my guitars and in all cases I would have been able to do it with better results myself. It was a time judgement as I thought it is faster if I give it to somebody who does this often but the results always were less than good for me. It took me three times to learn...I'd be plugging and re-drilling, for sure.
Sadly when I look for pics all I see are my own.
I dunno, I'm always a little happy inside when that happens.
PM sentI have an extra neck plate in my guild bin. PM me if interested
