Thread is making me nutty. If any of you guys come across one- yes a 6 string- let me know!
Not that they don't exist, but it occurs to me that since the higher-end models also sport AA or higher-grade tops, the black finishes (from Guild, at least) are rarely used on 'em unless special ordered or when producing a limited edition specifically to appeal to fans of black finishes.

Black also has a rep of being used to hide cosmetic imperfections in a top.

I do seem to recall having seen a black D55 from the late '70s or maybe '80's in one of the for sale listings a couple of years back though, "IIRC".
I have a sweet Black D 30 and then there's this one which is pretty unique. It's a D 25 DSCN1945.JPG
from Westerly in the Factory Finish of Black Sparkle. When the light hits it just right it grabs your attention. I've played it in Church a few times.. here's a couple pics but not sure how great the sparkle turned out.
I could not live with that. I'd be afraid somebody'd spiked my coffee or beer with LSD every time I saw it.

Hey we all love posting pictures of nice guitars! And you offered a nice opportunity!

I love it too. Keep at it!

And yes I suspected that about the cosmetic issues on the top- but what the heck.

But I would consider that an upside Al.

Oxnard did a run of Black M-20E (with white pickguard) awhile ago, ...they only made 4 of 'em
Great find! I don't remember we ever discussed them! All Solid African Mahogany body. And Nut Width 1 3/4″ (44.5mm) ! Fingerboard Radius 12″ (305mm). Frets are Jescar 43080. Black satin varnish finish. L.R. Baggs Element VTC.
Strange they don't even mention the black finish on the label. Well, it's black anyway...

I have one of the blonde valencia's, and just wanted to share that after talking to one of the nashville custom shop luthiers. They only built 34 valencia's. 16 blonde and 18, either black or sunburst, so they are very hard to come by, and the people who have them do not want to sell them very often. Good luck with the black guild hunt!!

But it seems that the rarer it is- the more I want it ;). I just keep trolling the sites and local stores and CL to see what comes up and hope I get lucky! I may go the builder route but I’m not there yet.

My Washburn EA-20 is my worst acoustic guitar. Plugged in sounds great. It's 26 years old now. Still happy to have a BLACK guitar and it's still almost as pristine as the day I brought it home. Black guitars are awesome!!!

I had a black Washburn EA-something... back in the late 80s/ early 90s...only sounded good plugged in. Looked just like yours. Recorded with it and it sounded fine. Sounded good onstage plugged in too (back then, we took what we could get with amplified acoustics, and hoped for minimal feedback). Acoustically, not so fine. I had it for 5 years though! A good workhorse for live. Sturdy, easy to play, stayed in tune remarkably well.

That SJ is amazing!
Thanks! Yeah, I got lucky on that one. It’s my stage guitar when I’m doing the Neil Diamond and/or Johnny Cash gigs. Not a cannon, but a nice full sound, really well-balanced, and doesn’t feedback on stage thanks to the onboard Fishman Aura Spectrum preamp. And black was SO hard to find!
Before that I used my black, Corona-era, MIRC’d JF30 with the K&K. (still have it!) I was looking for a black F-50 or F-50r but they are pretty rare too!
Black guitars just look so cool onstage, for what I do anyway.

Not a Guild, but the first guitar I ever played 40 years ago... (1980 Yamaha FG-335)

What I love is the smell of the wood. When I play it even today, the smell of the wood takes me instantly back to being young learning chords.

That's exactly what they are. Stage guitars that are great amplified and easy to play and sound great. Feedback usually isn't a problem because for their size their totally over braced which is why they sound not so great acoustically. And for the 80's and 90's the electronics were super state of the art on such a low priced guitar. I think I paid $600 for mine back in 95!! Still, it's thin body and size make it easy to play standing or on my lap. Good to hear you liked yours as well. They're not bad at all!!

This is EXACTLY it. I do a Del Reeves/early Waylon kinda thing and it would be perfect. I also was looking at Grammers but I’ve heard the thin necks can be unplayable. I have a Fender Custom Kingman C in Fiesta Red so it works but need the black!

A quick way to get there to buy it?? Quick question, is that the original pickguard? Looks funny on that with the darker purfling.....

Good spotting, the shape looks a little different from the originals but hard to tell. Just a ferry ride away...

I like my black guitar. The middle seam has closed up and absolutely no sign or repair to it.

The factory electronics are the best to my ears I have found and I like the way they are installed instead of the barn door type.
