I have looked up the serial which puts it in 1975. From all the specs I've read it's either a D-25m or a D-35. The model number on the badge inside was covered with a drop of stain during a repair to the sunburst finish. The only images from this period I can find show a much darker, tobacco sunburst. This is not nearly as dark on the edges. Any detective work you folks can add would be greatly appreciated. Also.... I need to replace the machines and the case, so any recommendations would be appreciated.

Whoever owned it did some damage to the soundhole

What is the serial #? Looks like a D35, but not sure. Reverb ad from 5 years ago, D35 burst from '78.
Rosette is different.

Solid, braced back would, I think, likely be a D-40 ???

Interesting. I should have put in the OP, I thought I could make out a 5 on the badge, BUT... I did see somewhere the maximum depth on a D40 was 5" whereas the maximum depth on the D-35 was 4 7/8". This is 5# So that would support the D40 theory, but I need more I think.. The argument against D-40 is this does not have the tell tale pearl inlay logo on the headstock. Instead it has a gold painted Guild on the headstock. Thanks for your response.

That's the closest resemblance to this finish I've seen. Most of the other sunbursts are much darker, mine is almost red.

serial is 116850. It's a 1975.

Ralf, just observed the same thing.
Found what looks like a somewhat close outer rosette match on my '73 D25 flat back,
but inner is rosette doesn't match (not that I think it's a D25, just looking for
clues for period rosette patterns).

JAHill, I'm vexed by that rosette on yours!

Ok, looks like it matches a '74 D35 rosette (year according to seller).
JAHill, can you check the stamp on the right side of the neck block bevel?
You'll have to shine a light through the soundhole, angling up,
here should be a date stamped there.

I think what we are looking at is a D-35 rosette from 1975. Right picture shows another one.

EDIT: Bonneville88 was faster!

So the Guitar should have "D-35 SB" or "D 35 SB" on the label.

A D-40 would have white (or light) binding and a Chesterfield headstock inlay in 1975. Looks like it's also been oversprayed...

Ralf, you're pretty quick on the draw yourself ;)

Another D35 soundhole detail, according to seller a '73,
rosette looks like a match.

Yeah the finish has lots of imperfections. I think the owner was a working musician who beat the thing up right. It sounds amazing though :)

Eureka! There was not a date stamped on the neck block bevel, but I was able to make out a faint D-35 stamped on it!!! I would have never known to look there. I'll include the best photo I could get, but I can make out D-35 with 100% certainty.
