I bought a Guild (Oxnard) D-40 Traditional about two years ago (roughly).....Online dealer, as I have very few music stores in my area, and the couple that are here aren't all that great...... but, I had FIRST bought the Standard D-40, which was quite a bit less expensive...and it sounded really nice, and seemed well built....but I didn't care for the satin finish...I was extremely careful with it, washed and dried my hands before playing it, wiped it down when I was finished, kept it in it's case, etc.....and within about 2-3 days, a dark stain was developing on the top where my hand rested on it....so maybe I have really oily hands or something...but, I was afraid of what it was going to look like after a year, if it was getting that way after a couple days.
I talked to the dealer and asked if I could return it and trade up to the traditional, since it had the nitro finish......and so I ended up doing that.
And when I hit my first chord on the Traditional......to my ears it sounded even better......and it's been a torrid love affair ever since. I like that guitar more every single time I take it out of it's case.
I would LOVE an Oxnard 12 String.....(12 strings are why I wanted a Guild in the first place)....but....until they make one that's under $3500 (like around the $2 - $2.5K area, there's no way I could rationalize getting one.
I had actually commented them, and mentioned that they kind of lack a pretty big area between their F-1512 and the F-512 series.
I think a USA model in between there would be awesome.
