Trying to determine the value of my 1982 Guild M80. It’s a black, unbound model with original hard shell case, in good to very good condition. I am the original owner. No modifications. I was told it has Dimarzio/Guild XR-7 pickups, and that the tuners are Guild-branded Schallers. Hardly played, a bit heavy for me. Any guitar “Blue Books” out there?

Not a lot of comparables out there. The Vintage Guitar Guide give a price for the CS model, but nothing after 1980. I have a burst ‘81 and might have the same issue. In the past I remember seeing asking prices of $850-1100. How much they sold for, I can’t say.

Blue Books are a hilariously outdated concept in my mind.

If you'd like to see what similar models sold for, use the Reverb sold checkbox:

That's probably where Chris' "lack of comps" remark comes into play.

Those '80s, unbound ones I'd figure at $650-750 in reasonably nice shape. If OP's is only "good" condition, maybe more like $450-500, though I'm a little thrown by the juxtaposition of "good" condition with a remark that it's hardly been played. Multiple dents/dings/chips and/or a repaired crack, but little actual play wear, then?

GAD’s search results show another solid color one going for $850; the bursts going for more. That’s where I’d start, maybe a little higher to allow for bargaining.

$850 to $1000 sounds about right especially with OHSC.

Interestingly I acquired a SB bound model and sold a semi transparent red unbound model years back. I felt the bound model looked better. However, from a players POV the unbound model is a much nicer guitar to play. Guild did an excellent job in shaping and rounding the edges and cutaways on that model. Although on the heavy side it is a very comfortable guitar to play and hold. No sharp edges on the 80's non bound M80 model body.

I think this pretty much nails it.

You’re absolutely right about that. I brought it to a local guitar shop to get it appraised and all the guy did was look on eBay and Reverb. He couldn’t find any good info. Not like selling a Strat or LP.

I’ve done that and the prices vary so much that you end up back at square one. And a lot of the younger guitar people at the local shops aren’t familiar with Guild electrics from the 80’s. Not popular like Fender, Gibson, PRS, Ibanez, etc.

Some chipped off paint on the headstock, light scratches and some oxidation on the switch keep it from being excellent. Mostly from moving it from room to room without the case. The difference betwen good and very good to me is a narrow matter of opinion. I’ve kept it in it’s case now for the past 3 years.

I would agree, that would be a good price range for someone familiar with Guilds. Most of the time when I mention Guild everyone thinks acoustic, which I can understand.
