O.K., it is not very elegant to follow up.
But I wonder if someone got this "Dead or Alive" innuendo.
No reactions at all make me doubt, anyone did.
Prove me otherwise...

I didn't get it and figured some discussion would ensue to clear it up. It hasn't and I still don't get it. Can you enlighten me??

When I walk these streets
A loaded six string on my back
I play for keeps
'Cause I might not make it back

but I don't get a cutaway connection. But then I don't get a lot of things.

I assumed because to play the song correctly, you have to get down to the 15th fret. Cutaway time!

That's okay, it's a band, AND it's a song (if you put Wanted: in front of it) by Bon Jovi, and it's also a movie.... it's a lot of things. They're being vague. Like to prove they're the cool kids. Which, I'm obviously not. I've never played that song.

The song that cutro and frono mentioned is a great example of the usefulness of a cutaway, that's all. It's a classic riff played on acoustic guitar, but quite a finger stretch without a cutaway.

Is it a Bon Jovi reference?

I suppose someone who doesn't play acoustic guitar could be forgiven for missing that.

Back to the Cut-Aways!

Here's a different take from Guild:

Prestige.jpg

In case you don't know this is a 1991 Prestige Classic. It's a X-175/500 Flat-Top!

Now see this is a type of cutaway I don't care for very much. It reminds me too much of Michigan. Not that I have anything against Michigan and I know quite nice people from there but I just don't like it as inspiration for a cutaway. Too thumb-ish or something. Nice guitar, tho......

Kind of looks like a catcher's mit.

Bass "brother" B-500 CE, from the Guilds of Grot Collection. Modeled by fronobulax with additional feet provided by default.

I don't mind the cutaway. It's like someone re-imagined a Starfire.

OK, so that's two no's for the Venetian Cut-Away!
Actually Venetian cutaways are my favorite vs. Florentine but just not that particular one. Taylor makes the best shape and here's a photo of 4 perfect cutaways all in one photo!
Taylor cutaways.jpg

Perfectly proportioned and executed!! Nothing better. Love the bevel, too!!

This is it, before I owned it.
Ovation Book Elite Rebuilt in 2010

Beautiful guitar, a work of art but I chuckled while reading. Owner requested they replaced the top.....which necessitated a new bowl ... and he chose to replace the bridge. So basically all he got back from Ovation was the original neck?

Interesting that on an Ovation site they'd mention the bolt on bridge hampers sustain vs the replacement bridge he had installed.
The Ovation repair department was legendary and Patch who posted this had several Ovations refurbished and also some custom builds. The refurbished guitars have a reputation of being better than new and indeed sometimes all that is original is a neck or a bowl or a top. As for the bridge some Ovations had two or three bolts in addition to the glue. With this guitar I suspect it is the denser material of the bridge in combination with the new top that contributed to changed tone.

And back to topic, my only guitar with cutaway is an Ovation Legend 12 string.

I think Don's Martin Performing Artist 12-string has a super nice and shapely cutaway. I wish I liked 12 strings more. Okay once in a while, but pretty to look at!!
