Yes, the black trim in the DV-73 and 74 is "onyx." But, IIRC from Hans comments re: the materials used, some or all were "reconstituted" from pulverized materials (onyx, coral, turquoise). The natural stone/materials would be too hard to be used in a fret board that might need to be sanded, during a refret, for example.

It would certainly stand to reason. The turquoise looks like it was sliced, though.
