Weird! Why would they call it "The Matterhorn"? I'm Swiss, I must know
This brings to mind an interesting story my uncle once told me (he's a pastor): He knows of pastors who tell their organ players to play a long infrasound note during certain parts of the sermon, so they could increase the churchgoers' feel of trepidation when talking of sins, damnation and hell etc. So military is not the only one to use this....
Toblerone? Maybe they devoured Toblerone while designing it - - -
But - I have an interesting book somewhere here. It is a scientific study about infra-frequency noise.
In one chapter :
Military - during & after WW I the doctors paid attention that on battlefields lay numerous dead bodies that had no visible injuries - in autopsies it was discovered, that the innards of those men were "mushed" - more or less - causing internal bleeding - leading to death. They came to conclusion, that it must be because of sonic pressure of explosions. After that all kinds of tests have been performed by many. Results include certain dB-levels where things start to happen.
I can not find the book right now, so I improvise the dB-numbers - and we are talking 0-5Hz range
160dB - dogs quit breathing - they lay on floor resonating - permanent hearing loss on some people
180dB - permanent hearing loss on most people
200dB - permanent hearing loss on all people - some have internal injuries
220dB - most people have internal injuries - some die
240dB - everybody dies
Naturally one starts wondering how can such pressure levels be done - the source list at the end of the book is pages long - it includes about anything one can or can not imagine from voluntarily hearing tests to atomic bomb studies. And that then makes you wonder if all the tested persons were volunteers. Them dogs definitely did not wish to be any part of it.
Am I veering slightly? Oops . . .
