He held the world record for hosting the longest-running weekly radio show with the same host, 70 years. At 96 he was one of the last with direct connections to the likes of Lead Belly and Woody Guthrie. RIP.

Growing up, my best friend was Jean Ritchie's son, and Oscar was a something of a fixture at their home. He was very kind man with a rapier wit. Here's a picture of my friend Jon (standing next to his mom) along with Oscar and older brother Peter (a superb guitarist) from one of the workshop stages at the Newport Folk Festival, around 1966 or 1967:

His was a life well lived, and at 96, he certainly had a great run! RIP, sir.

Would often catch his show, Let's Sing Out on CBC. First time seeing Judy Collins, Gordon Lightfoot, Josh White, Joni Mitchell, Fred Neil, Simon And Garfunkel. What was cool you could watch their hands to match what you heard and figure stuff out. Cool guy....

Same here; that show was a staple.

Guess I'll put on my old vinyl copy of "Bawdy Songs & Backroom Ballads".
