Record heat tomorrow, right? My heart goes out to you folks. At least when it's 105 down here, we can still get around. Y'all be careful. Man, they're talking the most snowfall ever in recorded history. Good luck Yanks.

All good here Jim, and we're right in the bulls-eye. Might get three feet! I keep the jets in the cheap Chinese carburetor on my Craftsman snowblower from clogging up in the off-season with a 10 guitar string end, and she fired right up on the first pull yesterday. The whole tri-state area is closed at 11PM EST. Bring it on!

Really Sandy, this sounds serious. I hope you folks have plenty of fuel, firewood and food. I'll be thinking about you.

Thanks Jim. I actually like a good blizzard, but only dapmdave and me might understand that.

Nah, I understand. I live for the spring storms we get here. I actually thought we were going to get to stay on the beach during a Cat 1 hurricane landfall once. We even took a vote. My boys and I voted to stay, Mrs. West voted to head for home. We stayed. That sucker petered out just off the coast. Yep, I'm a weather nut myself. Boring here......sunny and 72 tomorrow. : (

If you don't have it downloaded, get Wunderground.com Sandy.......you'll love all you can do with it.

My brother is a builder in NYC and has his hands full with this storm trying to keep the snow out of the buildings under construction. We in MA are now getting hit, and it could total 3 feet before all is said and done.

I understand because I'm a blizzard lover, too! :triumphant:

I never enjoyed putting on chains, when I lives somewhere where is snowed. Then I moved to the desert. I think a good blizzard would be a hoot, here ! They close down our schools at the slightest dusting, so I and the Mrs would be getting days off. Lots of guitar playing potential.

I'm not too worried about the folks back east. They get snow every year and have probably seen MORE than this, before. It's just that is wasn't a BIG news item back then. " Stop the presses! The North East is getting a lot of snow in January ! "

We are still getting hit hard right now after last night's wallop. Could end with quite a bit - heavy drifting for this storm. But you get used to it.

If you believe the talking heads on television, it is the end of the world!

We had a Historic Fizzard here in Central New Jersey!

Looks to be about 6" tops!

Of course those in Buffalo are probably laughing at the whole East Coast!

We have 26 inches already here in my town, supposedly one of the hardest hit.

We've got a couple of feet here on the central north shore of Suffolk County Kurt, and it's still coming down. Looks like it might be starting to tail off a little, but we're getting pretty much what the forecast said. The snow is nice and light, so it shouldn't be too hard to move. People further west on Long Island are actually complaining that they didn't get more!

The Weather Channel is stoking the "end of the world" fires, and loving it. Cantore's out in the thick of it, with his yardstick stuck in a snow bank, as usual, along with everyone else they can coax into the teeth of the latest "storm of the century."
Hey guys, it's January for cryin' out loud. What's the big surprise.

In a couple of months, tornado time and then hurricane season. Woo-hoo!!

Admitted weather geek, :triumphant:

Blizzards can be kinda' cool and can make things interesting, but when they are followed by high winds and bitter cold, that's a different story.

What's the wind and temp story out there?

Near record snow around here last year and nothing much this season YET! Snowmobilers are all p*$$'d off. :snowman:

22ºF right low with a feels like temp of 6ºF Terry. A lot of people further west on Long Island are actually complaining that they didn't get as much snow as was forecast, and the the authorities closed all the roads and told everyone to stay home. I personally would rather see them err on the side of caution, because the last time they didn't here's what it looked like around here.

The towns actually had to go in with front end loaders to remove the cars. What a mess!

This is the scene from yesterday at the "snowiest ski resort in the US." Normally, the chairs barely clear the snow at the beginning of the lift.

Mt. Baker is reeling from lack of snow and it's time to break out the rock skis/boards. Hard to figure this year's winter weather here in the Fourth Corner. :numbness:

We went up to Tahoe last weekend, and this is pretty much what it looked like. Ice everywhere, and dirt and brush wherever there wasn't enough ice to cover it. Miserable day. Me and the kids ended up just making snowmen halfway down the only run that was open.

Well it looks like the storm tracked a little more to the east of us then they we predicting. The weather forecasters in NJ are now apologizing and insisting they were not been paid off by the Supermarkets!

You LI and Massachusetts guys looked like you got walloped!

I'm STILL going to move to Alabama and the Gulf Coast. My family lives in upstate N.Y.; we have for decades. Why they stay there, they can't even tell you for sure except that it's beautiful. Maybe I'd think that as well were I still living there. But it doesn't matter what time of year it is here in Ohio it definitely is NOT a beautiful state by any stretch of the imagination.
