Me and the mystery guitar, a long time ago.
What is it?
What is it?
Hagstrom Viking?
Ovation?
Ovation Thunderhead with Vibrato in red? What model? And how is the one in the pic modified from stock? And who actually made the body and neck?
The bodies on those guitars were German made, so I'd guess Höfner..?

Pic's way too small for me to see if/how you modified it.
Not so much to see on your picture what's modified,
I just wonder what the light area between the bridge and vibrato is.
Neck would have been made by Ovation I guess as it had the Ovation headstock? (I know that there was talk on the internet about Framus doing the necks, but there was also talk they never got the deal and so some of those prototype or so necks ended up on Framus guitars).

ahh its not Guild, so who cares! kidding!!
Well, no longer, as both Ovation and Guild were shut down by FMIC and the New Hartford factory closed. Ovation is done and Guild was sold to Cordoba Music Group and production will re-start in early 2015 in Oxnard/CA.And if I am not mistaken, your darling Guilds are now being built where my Ovation might have been assembled.
I liked the quote on that euroguitars.co.uk page regarding the Hofner body: "they come from "the confused years" for Hofner, when they decided to copy ugly Japanese copies of American guitars instead of copying American guitars."Over all it is a strange guitar. It could have been a truly GREAT guitar with better construction and attention to detail, but ..... good components and base materials .... many corners cut in construction - an old story - not a story unique to Ovation, sadly.

Nothing prior to his first ECM vinyl. Oughta go pull out Rypdal/Vitous/DeJohnette and put it on the turntable this weekend. Thanks for the reminder. Are you familiar with the early works of the Norwegian guitarist, Terje Rypdal...

Ha! Don't forget the guy who wrote the book commonly referred to as "the Bible" on these pages is from Breda, the Netherlands. I know my guitar history and geeky facts pretty well if I may say so, but if there's ONE guy I'd never ever challenge, it's Hans! (and his knowledge goes a lot further than Guilds!)OK. This seems to have run its course. Does anyone else have a mystery guitar they would like to share or do I have dig into another closet or crawl under a spare bed somewhere? If you do have one, don't make it impossibly obscure, but it should be challenging enough that it will give these smart European guys a run for their money, eh?
