I took possession of a Gibson 61 Reissue SG today. 2010 model, perfect condition, not a spot on it. Gorgeous. The guy bought it, noodled around for an hour, his wife found out he had spent money on it and...that was that. I love the look of the smaller pickguard vs the batwing on my Standard and had heard all kinds of hype about the neck being so thin and wonderful on the 61, I had to have one. Brought it home, plugged it in. The 57 Classics sound nice...better than the 490/498s stock in the Standards. The thin neck I had heard so much about...pssh. The neck on my Standard is smaller. This thing is huge. And the body? Paper thin. And as nice as those 57 Classics sound, they are dog poo when A/B'd with the Iommi PAFs in my Standard. So...I'm gonna play her a bit more to see if she grows on me, but if she doesn't she's either getting sold or stuffed in my closet until one of my kids or grandkids want her. I so wanted to like that damned guit. :|

Wouldn't it be great to run across someone with an old Guild electric, who wanted to 'upgrade' to a Gibson....good luck with that.... :? Steffan

Fingers crossed! I'm kind of glad I bought it though. It reminded me of why I love my Standard so much and why I bought it back in 94 and not the 61 reish. After this experience I think there are only 2 more SGs I still lust after...this one...

...and, holy mother of god, this one...

Only $7000 worth of guitar between the two...
