Yeah, it works great. You just have to make sure you've got the right amount of extra string when you cut it, particularly for the unwound strings. I love this method because it "dresses" the strings perfectly by not having a whole lot of pinpoint stuff jutting out the hole.

Oh, it's a little difficult to do it without a winder (and probably very easy with a power winder, like the video).

My luthier taught me to cut in the same way at the same point as in the video....the only difference is he told me to do the first go round above the string poking through the post then every subsequent turn under it, that way the end of the string is squeezed between string and held tight....What I want to know is, where can I get one of those power winders!? Awesome tool.

$3.99 AT MUSICIAN'S FRIEND.

You'll need your own cordless screwdriver.

Or for 19.99 Ernie ball makes the whole enchilada.

Jeff,
Have You actually used the power winder?
Looks like it may be an asset for (my) aging eyes when re-stringing a 12'er.

I think I found a better hand crank..........better than mine, that is. The model that I own is too large for my guitars, 'cept My Taylor GA.
