I went into the guitar shop today and played two archtops for the first time.

They were both Epiphones, I didn't feel right going after a higher end Gretsch or Gibson, I just wanted to get the feel of these.

What a trip. :D

These felt diiferent that what I was anticipating. Very comfortable, good action on both.

The first was the ES-175, the other was a Joe Pass Emperor II

I can definately see one of these types in my near future.

One of my first archtops was a Joe Pass. None too shabby for the price I paid, but always knew I wanted more.

I don't intend to get one of these, I do have my eye on another guitar, but this was really the first time I held and played one of these, not as scary as I thought.

I just need to learn more about them. A lot more.

I have no business counselling anyone on the virtues of Electric's but take a look at what Ibanez is offering. Darned things are beautiful, Ive never picked one up. Not sure if old geezer's like us can buy them. Might be some kind of rule.

If I remember correctly Bing K had some in stock when I was there last Summer & I've seen them around in shops.

Actually, there is beaut of an Artcore on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &rd=1&rd=1 . I know the seller, I bought my DeArmond X-155 from him -- he has great taste in guitars.

Yeah, you can get a real Guild archtop for under a grand. Some deals better than others.

After putting GFS pickups on my Starfire project, I've become interested in the Xaveire guitars (both from guitar fetish, which is Jay Abend, former Westerly Guild guy). They have a 335 style that receives good reviews. Beautiful looking shelltops & a few other models. I kinda dig the headstocks.

Don.

How do those NY-II's sound on the Starfire ?

Couple of comments I read (Harmony Central ?), guys said they sounded more like hot P-90's.

One of these days, my Danelectro/NY-II project will get finished !

So far I like 'em a lot, but I haven't played it outside of my basement at modest volume. The guitar also has such a unique & powerful acoustic sound, I don't have a real feel for the pickups yet. I need to get it out & crank things up a bit.

Epiphone ??

Ibanez ??

Hardcore ??

Sorry, please forgive the blasphemy. Search Ebay musical instruments for Ibanez ,There are over 1500 items.

My nephews are quite proud of their Eyebanyz guitars & they do play pretty slick. Probably giving Fender fits competing with their Mexican Strats.

I never bothered to look very close, mostly because my nephews write wierd songs.

They covet my Guilds. 8)

Interesting coincidence, there's an Art Core on Seattle Craiglist & for $40.00 he'll throw in a nice Guild Case.
