I'm a foodie through and through. I love to cook, have for many years now. We're scattered out across this planet, besides guitars, we all eat, so what are you having for dinner tonight?

It's a bit cool here today, blustery -3 C (27 F)

Good old fashioned Canadian beef stew and dumplings. It's a two day affair to get the best flavour out of the beef for this stew.

Uhm, Uhm, good.

I'm not the cook but we enjoyed a meal of Sauerbraten (marinanted pot roast) and dumplings tonight. My wife has graciously learned to cook many of the German foods that I ate as a youngster. Of course it was delicious as those of you in-the-know might expect.

Criminy, this is over the top. Swapping recipies.

I do 2/3 of the cooking around here, usually much the same, namely: What's in the Fridge stir fry & grilling chickens & the like. the Redhead's a true carnivore, left to her own devices she would eat totally from the 3 basic food groups, bacon, sausage & steak.

I have to take care & be a bit creative with non beef & pork dishes. She goes on a big way for tacos & burritos with lean venison hamburger & my cardiologist approves.

Baked Cod's the plan tomorrow nite. Picked up 12 lbs of beautiful, thick, quick frozen filets a few days ago.

Sheesh, I can't believe I even came in here. Who started this, Oh, Graham, must be slow in Ontario.

Just passing the time getting to know the neighbors, Mr. Scrooge. For someone that didn't want to be here, you offered the most :D .

Thanks for the insight Chef, er Jeff.

I love German food. I could have left out the word German there and it would still be a true statement, but in this part of Ontario there is a large German population. In fact just west of here is the first major German settlement of Upper Canada, Berlin was the original name but due to the bad feelings of the war the city changed it's name to Kitchener.

Actually twas at an Octoberfest celebration that I met my wife.

Zikki-zakki, zikki-zakki, HOI - HOI - HOI!

That sauerbraten Gruhn, is that a sweet marinade or a savory one?

They are both good. I like Beef Ruladen a lot as well.

But for German, you just can't beet smoked Bratwurst, red cabbage, German fried potatoes and a good German beer!

Oh yeah......my daughter is learning to cook, I had Hamburger Helper tonight!

Oh yes.

Cold corned beef and asparagus salad tonight.

The salad is to die for; asparagus, blue cheese, toasted walnuts etc.

My favourite meal is Mrs Coasties Lamb Vindaloo. I get to drink lots of Heineken !

Graham,
It's more of a savory marinade with celery, carrots, various spices, and vinegar. The weather turned cold just this week in Salt Lake and so we've had a number of heavy German dishes that taste best when there is snow on the ground.

OH REALLY?!?!?!

The Redhead

Sorry Man, I never know when she's gonna show up. Often she checks in while I'm cackling my brains out on the floor & can't guard the monitor.

She was really into Coastie's asparagus recipie, & then, .... oh well.

Great looking recipe for the asparagus salad, Coastie!

I've got one for a broccoli salad if you're interested.

Tonight Huckleberry served up some slow-cooked pork cutlets, stuffing, corn on the cob, and fresh-baked cookies.

Dang Santa Ana wind is still prevailing, but it's cold instead of the usual warm.

easy to make and delicious to eat! Sweet & Sour Porkchops:

In a glass baking dish, cover the bottom with your favorite sauerkraut. Sear the chops in a hot pan for a minute, just to brown the surface, then lay them on top of the sauerkraut. Spread a jar of your favorite applesauce on top of the chops. Cover with foil and bake at 350F for 1 hour, and you'll have the juiciest most flavorful pork chops you ever tasted :D
