Here's a very snazzy-looking new X170 in a dealer's here.
Price translated into US dollars is $3219.
Merely out of curiousity, what was the retail price in the US when these were available please ?
Apparently, it is Corona made.

Hello Coastie,

Last price for the X-170 that I have (for 2001) was $ 2499.99. Don't think that these were ever made in Corona but I could be wrong. If you ask them for the serial number, I will be able to figure out where it was made.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hello Hans.

The serial number is AK171063.

Kind regards, Gary.

Hi Gary,

Well, it might be new at a dealer but believe it or not, that particular guitar is from 1999. The first part of 1999 to be precise!
Obviously it was made in Westerly, Rhode Island.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Coastie don't do jazz !!

And at NZ $5299 I'd get in a great deal of poo from Mrs Coastie !!

I can get a 'birdie off Ebay and into NZ for around NZ $2000 - $2200, so I could get another 'birdie (BLACK !) and a Blues 90, if I had the filthy lucre lying around spare.
Or another nice cutaway acoustic. Two cutaway acoustics !

DAMN YOU, WEST !!

If anybody is interested in this guitar, talk to me.
Of course, I don't know if it represents good value in Nth America, but there can't be new ones around still, surely ?

Many (maybe most?) do not consider the X170 a "real" jazz box. It is thinner than other recent Xs (X150, X160, X180). It also has a block under the bridge to reduce feedback - making is a rather nice blues/old R&R guitar. This is something Hans recently pointed out to me as I couldn't figure out why my Starfire III squealed when my X170 didn't.

This doesn't mean you can't play jazz on it - you can - bit it does a lot more.

Having said all that, we wouldn't want to see any marital issues arise in the Coastie abode... :p

Coaster,

Excuse my ignorance, I know it's hard to do sometimes. What the heck is a pink oboe? I ate at the Pink Adobe in Santa Fe last summer, is that close?
