Anyone know of any recordings with a hot Starfire doing the work?

Or a bluesbird.

there was a thread on this only fairly recently, and there's plenty more at the FDP and Gretsch pages

Hi Jeff - you might move left field and hunt down anything by the late Nathen Page (still has his own website & CD's for sale, though how he manages it I don't know...). He played a lovely early twin-cut Starfire with wooden bridge - got some great ultra-modern sounds, quartal harmonies, one of the first to explore this area along with Rodney Jones' early mentor Bruce Johnson. Nathen played with organist Jimmy Smith among others. And of course the Kinks played Starfires.......

1st Grateful Dead album

The first Grateful Dead album features Jerry Garcia going nuts on a Starfire. I'd highly recommend it to the unitiated. It's much different than nearly everything else they ever did - the songs all have a very bluesy, early-to-mid 1960s vibe. Conventional pop/rock songs in the same vein as the Stones and other white R&B bands of the period. If you only know Garcia for psychedelic noodling, or playing endless loopy lines over midtempo folk 'n roll songs, this album's a real eyeopener.

You can see a picture of the guitar here:
