LOL re DJ Wilson "passing" on jimmy's new project aka Zep.
I wonder his thoughts on that now.
kind of cool he was like, "no thanks Jummy." love it

to be fair, i am not a Plant fan, but their music was cool. that drumming was killer. made that band.

Why "Power Failure" 's drum solo is one of the few I actually look forward to.
And I goofed about Trower on "Conquistador", Barricades was actually his last with the band, it just took him over 2 years to get the first solo album out.

Barricades sounds like a stripped down Zep song, but with more Keith Moon Happy Jack type drumming :)

and a more of a Cream type singing.

At the time, I couldn't tell you. I didn't realize how highly respected he was in the biz until just a couple of years ago.
And for Page to have hit him up for Zep, it would have had to be around '68, when PH were probably still coasting on "Shade of Pale" royalties and getting good reviews for Shine on Brightly and Salty Dog
Barricades is the only PH album I ever bought.
When it came out Zep was still about a year away from becoming the mega-behemoth we think of now, with IV being abut 4 months from release and III having stumbled a bit from the switch to acoustic predominance after the heavy metal of the first two.
And it took about a year for "Stairway" to hit critical mass, much like "Layla".
It was actually the '75 US tour that really put 'em over the top.

now that is interesting Al. had no idea. the '75 tour when they got robbed too i hear in NYC. like lost thousands of dollars.
i doubt i could listen to either Stairway or Layla all the way thru anymore :)
still love the Stairway solo. one of the best solos of all time. the studio version I mean, whenever i heard Page play the solo live on some youtube video it was a mess :)

Yeah I had a bootleg, "Live on Blueberry Hill" that came out about 1973 but was from a '70 tour, and gave me a negative opinion of him for years, after he'd been a hero of mine for the first 2 Zep albums.

Finally got my respect back again for "The Song Remains the Same", the song, not the film.
And how's that for new title for connection?
