Figure it out? It stand for New Disgusting Project Day.
I saw a non-functioning Thunderbass listed in a slightly-less-than nearby (3hrs away) CL for $165. Luckily, one of my former students lived there and was willing to enable. I gave my price, and my limit, PP’d him some cash and waited. He was able to get it for $120.
Since I’d already worked on one, I thought it’d be a grand slam.
Wellllllllll.
Since both he and his wife have family in my area, he was able to drop it off to me this weekend, and I found it on my doorstep when I got back from a trip up to Columbus. Looked a little grody, non-original tolex coming off. Then I got the chassis out.
Sigh.
Here’s the top side, looking very grimy.
But, the underneath was far worse.
Including this one area that looks like it might have been BBQ’d.
He tried to do some work, all the tiny ‘lytics were changed, but it needs new filter caps, non-spliced wires, and a hazmat suit.
At least the Sylvania 6L6s tested good. Whether the amp had been wired for them is another story.
