I don't think that's a D-40... its got a pearl rosette and an "ivoroid" trim wedge at the heel. The only combination I see of the pearl rosette, dot fret markers, & Chesterfield on the "classic" domed/paddle headstock is in the MIC/Westerly series... either a D-140 (mahogany) or D-150 (EIR). I thought it looked like rosewood... but don't see that available in burst. So I think it might be a D-140, like this...

Seems a lot of his early work was done with a '75 D-35...
