I've got a day's worth of cabling to do. I'll be back later. Here's a pic for you to all fight over. :playful:

I know what it really is but I need to know how it compares to a transistor radio in audio quality.

Yeah I figured it out after post #2, too, but didn't want to spoil the fun.
Audio quality?
This is for collectible and oddball appeal.
I'd be surprised if audio quality is even a consideration.
But given the likely construction I suspect yes it's equal to the finest transistor radios Japan had to offer in 1965.

Jeez, the least you could have done was wipe the dust from the disintegrating foam speaker grille off of it!

Given that every one I saw on the net didn't even have the foam anymore, I think the dust may be the only thing holding it together.
In fact I bet the little black flecks all over it are actually particles of foam decay.
Kinda like radioactivity.
Eventually it'll all just disappear.

I’m thinking a guitar would be louder without that thing plugged into it.

I bet the input leads to a tiny cassette player with Record and Pause pushed in.

I knew y'all would get close to the truth. That image is a photoshop! Here's the original for comparison. I was honestly thrilled to find one in the condition that it was in! And yes - a detailed review is pending. :encouragement:

Grot That is the only one I’ve seen like that. Might you have a higher-res pic?

I can't imagine that thing sounds fantastic, but what gets me is what it's like actually trying to play a guitar with that thing hanging off of it.

A truly elegant design, to be sure.

Looks like there were multiple revisions, some I had seen have toggle switches without the two screws.

Here's actually a picture I just found:

That's the mother of them: Aria Pro II "Loco Boy" LA-40, also in two versions with toggle and slider switch:
