Oh, that's nice! We have a 3D printer at my college, very cool!

Time to make a guitar!

That's cool!

I'd probably do something more like this:

Goes against the time space continuum somehow...

Goes Against Drafting ;)

Someone still has to design. It’s just done in 3D space software instead of on a drafting board. I’ve already designed a Guild related item but I’ll wait until there are hilarious failure pics to share.

Never having seen one, how durable is the plastic that is used for 3d printing?

There are all sorts of different fillaments from water soluable to ABS. The printer I got will even print wood and metal infused plastics.

I kinda like this one - the gears actually move and the piston pumps while you're playing it...

Nice one!

One of the things that a lot of people (not saying anyone here) don't seem to realize about 3D printing is that it's not a Star Trek replicator. To make that guitar you'd have to print all the pieces, probably sand/finish the pieces (depending on the printer and settings), paint the pieces, assemble the thing, then get all the real guitar bits and attach them. If you're the one that designed it, then you'll likely discover that 13mm error you made and have to start over (though you probably would have test-fit before printing).

Also, I bet it would take about a week of print-time to make a guitar that complicated.

And it would all be totally worth it.
