A Guild G1000 acoustic amp. This is Grot's and he let me borrow it so I could write about it and hopefully fix some issues it's having:

Testing with a Guild GX:

The GX is a very cool guitar! My daughter fell in love with it at first sight.

She has good taste!

Just curious, does the guitar use electric or acoustic strings?

I currently have a set of 10s (electric) on it because it seemed like that's what it wanted, but it's got an acoustic saddle so the plain G doesn't intonate perfectly. I'm going to try it with light acoustic strings to see how it goes. It's got an electric guitar neck on it, so it's a bit of both worlds in one package.

You can get electric sets with wound Gs.

Right - I've been using D'Addario XL110W's for years. Standard 10 - 46 set, but a wound G (.018 vs. the unwound .017). They might work nicely on the GX...

That hurts my head. I gotta bend my G!

Really, though, because the guitar is so thin and thus bright, I think it would do well with some phosphor bronze strings. I think it really comes down to what you want the guitar to do for you. If you want it to play like an electric, it can. If you want it to sound like an acoustic, it can. It's a compromise in both departments, but it's a heck of a lot of fun to play.

What if you want it to play like a banjo?

It's got a round sound hole so therefore it should have acoustic strings! (That and it has a saddle pick-up.)

Very excited about the Amp review. (Are those factory original casters?)

Those casters are the original casters from my office chair. :smug:

I've been trying to find casters to match the catalog pic but the real problem is that I think the existing sockets may need to be replaced. I'd put some low-friction skateboard wheels on there but I'm afraid you'll kill yourself riding it up and down the hallways in the vault.

BTW I made fun of the design of this thing in my original Timberline article, but I'm going to have to take all that back because this thing is pretty darn cool. It's the best sounding of all the Timberlines I've had and with this one in-house, the only one that's missing is the Sequoia. I think this one sounds so good because it's got four speakers and a big 'ol honkin' subwoofer. Well, it sounds great when it's not hummin' and cracklin', but that's being taken care of.

Where were the casters? I'm pretty sure if they had been on the amp in the vault there would have been less "huffing and puffing" going down the hall. :)

Never mind. Someday I will remember my own advice to read the thread before responding.
