I highly recommend visiting the Museum at Bethel Woods, where they have a wonderful permanent exhibit devoted to Woodstock, and an additional exhibit commemorating the 50th anniversary of the music festival.

Here is some Guild content relating to Richie Havens and Jack Casady:

Not the one he played at Woodstock, but typical of the wear and tear on his guitars. I recall reading somewhere that he went through at least 2 or 3 D40s per year.

Thanks. The recovery of that bass was news but I did not remember where it ended up.

Lineup for 50th Anniversary Week (end): https://www.bethelwoodscenter.org/the-museum/woodstock50anniversary

Watkins Glen (way North of the original Bethel site) had an event planned at the speedway, billing itself as the 50th Anniversary concert, but I see lots of conflicting reports regarding whether or not it's going to happen. Was up at Bethel a few weeks back, and saw where most hotels & B & B's have set their rates to "gouge" for the time period surrounding the actual anniversary week.
Museum center is an interesting visit, and they do have a slate of great concerts year-round both at their indoor venues and the outdoor ampitheatre that's been constructed on the property. Overall, Sullivan County remains a pretty depressed area, one which casino gambling has so far failed to revive.

Hard to believe the '73 concert at Watkins Glen had more people than Woodstock, about 600,000 people. How did they get them all in there for a one-day concert?

Sounds like they had the same mess, Dread..... only 4 years later :biggrin-new:

Interesting note from Wikipedia regarding some of the abandoned vehicles from '73 traffic jam during Summer Jam:

"In 2013, a maintenance crew from Watkins Glen International found abandoned cars from the event in the woods on track property."

We drove and then we walked. We heard music but took it as a matter of faith that there was actually a stage that anyone could see.

I was 15 for Watkins Glen in '73. A friend's older sister's boyfriend and his buddy drove me and 2 of my buddies. We got there Friday afternoon and camped. Heard music coming from the direction of the stage Friday night and walked over to see the Dead play a 2+ hour soundcheck. Managed to work our way to within about 50 rows from the stage the next day. My first and only time seeing The Band. Wow, they were great!

For water there were big piles of plastic gallon jugs scattered around. All the guys were using empty jugs to pee in: way easier than walking out of there. Traffic getting out was super slow but I don't remember any real problems.

The Woodstock 50th show that was supposed to be held at Watkins Glen this August is not happening.

I remember Dicky Betts was so effed up that he kind of stumbled and fell down on stage during a multi-band jam at the end of the show.
