There is a 1981 X-175 listed on eBay Germany that looks like this:

s-l1600.jpg

Its a very nice color, and reminiscent of the Opulent Brown used by Benedetto. But in 1981, Guild had no association with Benedetto. So is this guitar original, or refinished? The label says "X-175 SB".

Also of interest is the clear pickguard. Its in the correct stairstep shape, but is this likely to be the work of an ambitious DIY-er, not the Westerly factory?

That's an original finish and a good example of what 'sunburst' could look like during the early '80s; sunburst never meant just one color scheme.

The pickguard is obviously not original.

And of course the TRC's oriented so that the player can easily remember which guitar he's playing at a glance.

Thanks to everyone for your replies! I've seen Guilds with orangey sunbursts, reddish sunbursts, and yellowish sunbursts, but I hadn't seen such a brown sunburst before. You learn something new everyday around here!
