This is worth the time to watch. Very compelling.

My uncle was too young for WWII but he was on one of the observer vessels during the Bikini Atoll tests after the war. He died of bone cancer in his early 50's.

These Veterans didn't get the attention and the "glory" as it were because they weren't actually in combat.

I'm retired from the CG. I did 23 years. 4 Navy 19 CG. If you served - you served in my book, war, combat or not.

My jaw dropped when I saw the video footage of that USS Valiant crew member on top of this submersible in June.
I always figured they had other methods of "reinin' 'em in", so to speak.
Maybe they do and that was just a mans of expediting the takedown, but that's putting one's self in harm's way for the sake of others for sure.
