We used to call it "Decoration Day," as they decorated the Veterans' graves with flowers and flags. The first official commemoration was on May 30, 1868, following the Civil War. We lost over 1 Million Americans in the Civil War, more than we lost all our other wars combined.

Respectfully remembering all the Americans who gave their lives in service to our country today. We owe them a great debt of gratitude.

Absolutely true!!!! I never served. My Dad did in WW 11 in the Navy. Like most vets he didn't want to talk much about the whole experience. I would have served if I'd been drafted. I happened to be of age when the lottery system was in effect. I had a very high number, I think like 290 if I remember right so I stayed home. However, I have nothing but respect and thanks for those who did serve. We owe each of them a whole lot.
