Would that '97 by chance be "Black Cherry" over maple?
Pretty unusual finish, not often seen but looks like maybe that's what it was originally intended to be used on, something that would mellow it out a bit.
On their chip chart it looks exactly like what you'd expect by the name, very dark.

Fair enough, each their own taste. They're very different guitars in any case.

Yes absolutely! The fun part is the journey - playing the guitars from different eras and discovering the ones that speak to you and inspire you to play. :)

Nice lineup! I like the one in the middle best, but then I'm a sucker for a nice 'burst.
