Hello

There is a "new" guild in my house - for now I will post only one pic. In the picture you can see headblock of Studer C37 tape recorder - all vacuum tubes, cast frame etc. On top of the picture there is red stained wood of the Guild.

I will post more info tomorrow. Right now I can't even play because my fingernails keep bustin and cracking and splintering - must be lack of something. Never happens in summer to this extent.

Anyway - the Studer C37 is there so GAD can write : "You have a Studer C37 ! I so want one."

DUDE!

For those who don't know, It takes a special kind of collector to have one of those just because of the space required.

Usually they're utilitarian looking like this:

I like this presentation, though:

Congrats on the NGD, hope your calcium levels are ok. And that Studer sure has some interesting non-standard control buttons eh.

Have to check calsium.

As of Studer buttons - the left bank is very standard - markings are "old-fashioned"

Fast Rev - Fast FW - Play - Stop - Rec - note that in all Studer-ReVox Machines the Stop-button is between Play & Rec in order to prevent unintentional recording - must use two fingers.

Right bank - Scissors - 7.5ips - 15ips - power switch.

Only not-so-standard switch is the "scissors" - this machine has motorized scissors that cut the tape in constant angle - there is also a simply clever system built around the last guide-roller on right. First you cue the tape to position to be cut by turning tape flanges by hand and listening. Then you hold the tape, turn the roller so, that the marker in it matches "playback-head" - then you move the tape flanges so that the marker moves to "scissors" - hit switch and your'e ready to go on.

I have been editing German examine tapes with a machine like this - I could remove one single letter, when needed!!!

Right now it is late and too dark to take more pictures - but tomorrow I'll reveal the story - even tho GAD did not say/write the exact words . . . But he responded otherwise good enough

This Studer is for sale, too - there is somebody from Poland making offer for it.

Can not take it with me when my time comes - and my estate has no interest in this stuff.

I'm no recording collector, but I had one of these a million years ago before going digital. Recorded this frenetic piece on it (with my long gone Sequential Circuits Prophet V synth)....

The 4-channel version was J37 - The Machine used for Beatles Sgt Pepper - not too shabby . . .

Hello

That Studer C37 weighs 77kg without trolley - that's hefty 169lbs

So when you wish to travel light, there is Studer A67 - about half the weight and 1/4 the size.

img_3373.jpg

As you can see - the original tuners have been changed to locking Klusons - they are butt ugly in front, while they stick so high up.

Having tape-recorder is no fun without decent mixing console - so here is some Guild mahogany on Studer 980

fullsizeoutput_305.jpeg

And guitar playing is also fun, when there are drums - like this old Premier brass snare - made in England sometimes long ago

img_3377.jpg

Finally - besides music toys and audio toys there are G-scale trains - I used to be rep for German LGB before Märklin violently took over - weatherproof garden trains.

img_3378.jpg

As can be seen - trc is correctly - guitar is exact how I received it from LTG-member Muovinen - we traded some "junk"

Oh - not quite exact - I put that black tape over the serial number and trc to keep suspense up for some more hours.

Meanwhile you can guess . . .

Not that anyone here would admit to first hand knowledge ;-)

I too am having fun with this thread and am looking forward to the reveal.

Hello

One more pic before revealing the secret - the original tuners were included - and they look like this

img_3385.jpg

Unfortunately I photographed them without any fancy audio gear - like Neumann Digital microphone - I happen to have one - what else did you expect . . .

Few more hours to go - but you guys could at least try to guess :dispirited:

And to think that my pictures were taken with iPhone SE - imagine what GAD could have done with his rig . . .

. . . supposing he was only interested in visual aspects . . .

Cougar - whole guitar coming soon.

Still some time for guesses

Since it has the 70s style headstock with a painted logo, I would say it’s either an S-90 or S-50. If I have to choose one, I’ll go with S-50, because of the tuners. ‘75 or ‘76 for extra points. (Going for the half court shot.)

Hello

To be precise - I was told by Muovinen who was assuming the included tuners are original . . .

Both of us can be mislead.

Anyway - It is getting close to 23.00 and time to hit the hay - so time to announce winner . . . . . . . . . . . . . ( drumroll ) . . . . . . . . .

Nobody was exact - but winner was close - only missing one letter.

img_3381.jpg

GAD was close - only missing "D" - see why I was putting the hint ? Studer? Nagra? ???

img_3382.jpg

img_3384.jpg

Notice the Studer 980 on background of last pic . . .

img_3388.jpg

I did tweak the bridge pickup a little closer to strings to get balance correct - unfortunately because of my lousy fingernail situation only played this nice guitar only few minutes - but can tell, that it is a great player . . .

So - this is for it now. Thanks to Muovinen for straightforward dealing - and thanks to all LTG:rs for watching.

GAD get's price for being closet - I'll drop 20€ off the Nagra in the other post :very_drunk:

Goodnight, now it's time to go home - We're the Sultans of Swing - Mark Knopfler
