Guild S-260....?

Anyone have any info about or own a Guild S-260? Thinking about taking a chance on one. Single pickup (bridge) and volume only control. I've always wanted something like that (a la G&L Rampage style). The only info I seem to be able to find is that there were apparently 30 of them made in 1983 and that's it.

Thanks,
Tim

I have an S270: guild-s270-flyer Which is a surprisingly great guitar. If the 260 is the same thing but with only one knob, then I'd venture a guess that it will be equally great.

As for the "only 30 made" thing, I've learned not to care about such claims unless Hans verifies, and he rarely does when it comes to rarity. The S270 is fairly uncommon and I can tell you that I think I paid less than $400 for it and it's damn-near mint. My point is that rarity has little effect on price on these '80s Guilds so don't the seller try to convince you it's worth a lot because of its rarity. They're a curiosity to people outside of collectors or real guild aficionados.

Can't wait to see pics!

Yeah. The main reason I'm thinking of taking a chance on it is because the price is right. It's not the buyer talking about the rarity or number made, just some info that I found when googling the guitar model.

Thanks!

Hello Tim,

If you're looking at an instrument with only a bridge pickup and a volume control, it's probably not an S-260; most likely it's an S-281, but I would need to see it to confirm what it is.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

The model number may be a mistake, as Hans said. Here’s a pic of an S-260 I found.

With some info.

Like Hans said, that seems to be the S-281A1 "Flyer". A1 is the single EMG pickup version. Serial number makes it a 1985 one.

Cool. Well I was able to snag it for $300. I can't help but feel like anything in decent shape with the Guild name on it is worth at least that.

Good Lord that's awful.

LOL! I looks a little like my S-25.

I think with the shape they were going for something that combined a Strat with something more traditional. But somehow they missed and with that sunburst it comes across as C&W (not that there's anything wrong with that.)

FWIW, the S-25, now sporting an especially bright set of HB-1's is a R&R machine. You can make bears dance and then kill them with that thing. That not I want to kill bears... or make them dance.

Yes, but the S25 is *not* awful. I love that whole line. The S260 is awful. It looks like someone took a Peavy T60 slapped a prototype "please don't use this one again" headstock on it and then applied a liberal dose of pick-guard to the mix. The S25 is elegant by comparison.

That S-25 reminds me of the black Rickenbacker 250 Eldorado I owned for awhile in the '90s. Similar cutaways, 24-fret neck. Played real nice but sounded real meh. ;)

Yes it looks better, but the bolt-on maple neck is a deal-breaker for me, too. Also the S25 looks like a Guild with the angled tailpiece and Mueller bridge.

Oh, so you're a '70s Guild snob are you?

Weren't you just saying how GREAT your S-281 is? Umm, that has a bolt-on maple neck if I'm not mistaken correct?
