I went to TR Crandall in Manhattan today to pick up a guitar and to drop one off, and saw some nice Guilds for sale.

Here’s a 1972 M75

Cool stuff. That's a great looking Aristocrat. In the first pic I first thought I spotted a Gibson Barney Kessel Custom, but after a closer look decided it must be a Johnny A, then after yet another look am thoroughly confused. :) It's got the wrong fretboard inlays for either Kessel model (or a Trini Lopez Custom) but does seem to have the Custom's "note" headstock inlay. Also has the right f-hole(s) for a Kessel. Hmmm…

Edit: think I figured out the Barney Kessel thing. One of the Japanese guitar makers, Matsumoku, made a Kessel copy with the note headstock inlay in the late '60s. Typically branded a Ventura. This is probably the guitar in the first pic above.

Yeah! I've played a few Kessels…very crisp, snappy guitars. The earlier ones are often parted out as the pickups are likely to be worth more sold separately. :( I should keep a lookout for one of these copies.
