Is he playing a JF30? Based on the headstock I know it to be a Westerly. I know a more astute Guild aficionado will be able to spot it right away.. I know whatever it is he has a green one too.. He played them both at a live solo acoustic show I saw years ago. Not at the same time of course.

I am a big McMurtry fan.. Where'd You Hide The Body is in my top 5 favorite albums of all time.. Good stuff. Anyhow enjoy!

Really cool song and performance. I could be wrong, but that looks more like an F-40 to me (16" jumbo).

That's a GF30, and I've seen that one in person. James is a big Guild guy. Plays an S60 usually, too.

Interesting why he fixed the soundhole pickup in that GF-30 with black tape...

Maybe the fastening mechanism or screws were lost - he must really dig the sound of that pickup or maybe it's vintage/hard to replace. Certain pickups just work perfect for certain guitars.

He's been playing that guitar for a long time, has at least one other Guild, two I think even, solidbodies.

Yeah for the longest time I thought it was a JF30, but that GF30 now makes perfect sense.
And Two Corgiis mentioned an S60 which I don't think I've ever seen. (On him)

Yes, he has at least three or four, possible even five GF-30s, one or two in red, a blonde, a green and a blue one (I didn't find pictures of the blue one).
And a brown D-25.
And one or two S-60 solidbody in black (?) and "brown/cherry".

He's using Sunrise pickups in all acoustic guitars.

The blonde one: (with his son Curtis)

The S-60 in black (not 100% sure if it is the brown one and just dark light) and in "brown" one:

The D-25 (here in 1990) which he still has today:

The green GF-30:

The blonde GF-30 and the green GF-30 (and you can see that it is one and the same guitar) are mostly played by his son Curtis now:

I've seen the blonde one on his boy before.. Who is a pretty good little songwriter in his own right..
Never seen him with the S60 before very cool. Love all these pictures. Such great taste the McMurtry clan has in their instruments..

He played the green and red GF30 at a solo show here at Poor Davids Pub about 13 years ago.. It was to this day one of the best shows I have ever seen.

wonder what vintage that D-25 is and if it's a flat back

Based on the other acoustic guild buying habits of the McMurtry fam my guess is that it is an arched back.. Looks like the hog stained spruce top variety to me.. I could be wrong..
