estimates are crazy low! the black strat at $150,00? should bring at least 3 million. others seem very low as well.
Well, you won! I never thought this would happen.
Look how crazy the bidding went!
What I noticed is that the price it sold for was $3,300,000 but Christies adds the
20% commission and some other charges so the $3,300,000 buyer ended up paying
$3,975,000. Well, just a $675,000 commission, peanuts...
Here's the link to all guitars sold (scroll down on that page). Some New Hartford made Ovations sold for crazy prices as well, one of them for $150,000! (The estimate was $1,000 to $1,500 only!)

So obviously there is big guitar buying money out there! I just wonder what all the buyers will do with those instruments. It's hard to imagime that as an "investment". Well, Jim Irsay alone spent about 25% of the auction total on the two guitars and the case...At least he posted on Twitter: "
Honored to bring The Black Strat to the public." So I wonder if he will display her or lend it to a player? Or does he plan playing her himself in his cover band? But imagine to play a almost $4M guitar on stage...Makes all the 59 Burst's looking cheap now! Anyway, Jim Irsay has a very huge guitar collection already, so it makes sense for him as long as he has such spare money to spend.
Here's some more info about Irsay's collection:
"
In 2016, he purchased the Yellow Cloud electric guitar that Prince used in concerts from the late-1980s until the mid-1990s for $137,500. In 2002, he paid $957,000 for Jerry Garcia's one-of-a-kind "Tiger" guitar. And in 2013, he purchased the Fender Stratocaster used by Bob Dylan in the 1965 Newport Folk Festival for $965,000.
In all, Irsay has about 200 guitars in his collection.
He's also a huge Beatles fan. In 2004, Irsay bought a Gibson SG that George Harrison gave to Badfinger's Pete Ham 35 years earlier. He also purchased the Beatles' 1966 Vox guitar for $408,000 in 2013."
And obviously he is not only into guitars:
