I finally got an actual diagnosis on my shortness of breath: my diaphragm is paralyzed, but only on the left side. They can't tell me for sure how it happened or whether it will come back. Meanwhile, still working on losing more weight, and doing pulmonary rehab twice a week. Still on supplemental oxygen. I'm hoping to lose the oxygen tank ultimately.

I'm back doing my music things, but it's kinda hard to push out those songs when the diaphragm isn't 100%.

dread, take care! At least you know what it is, and can attempt to deal with it. Time to learn some instrumentals!

I hope knowing the problem helps the healing. Best on losing more weight - not an easy task. Good luck on a positive music return.

Thanks guys. I didn't realize how much I was relying on my diaphragm for singing until half of it conked out!

Stay positive! Being able to play guitar again should help with that. Good luck with loosing weight. It’s worth the effort!

dread, I'm sorry to hear this. Hopefully they can figure out why and how to fix this. Losing weight is good. Remember slow and steady wins the race. Last year I topped out at 266!! I'm 5'10" and that's WAY too heavy!! As of yesterday, 226!! I've lost 40 pounds. Keeping at it until I lose some more. This getting older $hit is for the birds...... I like Jane's idea. I sing with a mic all the time. My best, amigo!! :encouragement:

You gotta breathe to be able to sing properly, and you gotta use the diaphragm to be able to breathe properly... so what the hell... do it IMproperly and make the mic do all the work! Hey, it works for Tom Waits! LOL.
Seriously though, take it slow and easy and heal. We’re all pulling for you!!!
