Hi

is there anyone able to figure out about the following serials found on a Guild X700.

The serials appearing both on the headstock and the label within the f hole is FK700238. Now in general the X-700 serials starts with AK and besides, just looking online on the sites with Guild serials, it seems that the last X700 produced in 1999 was # 213 (so the last one should be AK700213)

Is there anyone able to figure out whether the serials means something ?

Thank you in advance

The serial number charts online are known to be incorrect in many ways. I'm sure Hans will be along with accurate information. Hans wrote the book on Guild guitars and has the most accurate information that I'm aware of.

AK is the correct prefix. Maybe the FK wad a goof-up on the headstock that got repleated on the label for consistency's sake? Mine starts AK0, rather than AK7 (on both the headstock and label). Seems reasonable that, if a headstock got mis-stamped, they'd just go with it, so long as it was stamped with a unique serial number -- it serves its purpose well enough, from an ID/warranty standpoint, that way.

FYI, Hans will be going camping for the next couple of weeks, so we'll probably be on our own until he gets back.

Welcome aboard JJXX!
Be advised that the s/n listings on Guild's website actually don't go beyond '97, Hans has explained this himself, so there's still a full 4 year's worth of potential variations in s/n's not shown there.
Example: D40's were revived during that period and don't show a listing at all.
Bearing in mind Acornhouse's note that Hans is probably out of touch for a couple of weeks, you might want to send him an email:
http://www.guitarchives.nl/guitarsgalore/

It's a pretty sure bet he'll get back to you.
In the meantime, we love pics!

Hello JJXX,

Welcome! The serial number letter prefix for the X-700 should be AK. A small group of instruments was stamped with the FK-letter prefix by accident, but these should be dated as if they have the AK-prefix.
The on-line serial number list is somewhat confusing as it suggest that the last X-700 serial number for 1999 was #AK700213, but that is not correct;
actually it is the last number for 1997.

Your guitar with serial #FK700238 is listed as a blonde finished X-700 and it was completed during the year 1998.

Hope you will enjoy the guitar!

Sincerely,
