Bwahahahaha!!!! In other words, with an axe like that, who need psychedilcs? :) :)
If you can just visualize an axe like that, AND build it, who needs psychedelics....

Could this be the real reason why Jerry Garcia and Bobby Weir were so intent on visiting the Westerly factory when they were in town?

:) Exactly.

Maybe Jerry and Bobby were feeding these drug-induced designs to Mr. Greco. Y'know, LSD by osmosis.

I like the old original Guild block lettering. Rustic I would call it. The inlay on this guitar is exquisite. The red color interesting. Greco definitely came up with some unique shaping of headstock and body style. Oval sound hole I do not recall to be very common back in these days. So elaborate. How does the guitar sound?

Holy crap, someone turned down $!M for one of these? That's insane?
You might have heard of Rick Nielsen?
You know, "He Wants You to Want Him"?
HE turned down the mill.
There's only 3 of 'em.
And I suspect it was his Merle Travis that Hans showed here many years ago, post #6:

Compare Rick's comments about the guitar's condition to the headstock in Hans' post....

The irony is that Rick Nielsen was a big Hamer customer, and they had lots of his stuff in New Hartford at any given time. Not that NH had anything to do with the Merle model, but it is funny how things intersect. I did not know that that Nielsen from the story was Rick... That guy has (I think) a pretty large collection of all kinds of interesting stuff!

Interesting about Pete Townsend.... I remember seeing that business about him offloading stuff to buy a boat. Forgot it included a Merle.

Yeah he does, like a small warehouse full.
There was a pretty good episode of American Pickers a couple of years back that dealt with his finally starting to move some of his stuff, much to the delight of dedicated Cheap Trick fan Frank (the short guy) who got offered first dibs on lots of stuff, "IIRC".

You're exhibiting the effects of another lesser-known malady from the '60's: TDA or Trans Dermal Amnesia.
I have it myself, now.
