Laughed at both Autotune and Escort. Ford Escorts were in the USA for about 20 years. I'm surprised I had never seen a similar joke before.

Mk1 Ford Escort. Not sure if our American members will get this. I believe they did get a Ford Escort model, but it was much later:victorious:
THAT one was a classic example of re-using names in different market, the US Escort wasn't derived from the European one. (And not that you said it was)
We did get an earlier derivative of that Escort's styling as the Mercury Capri, though:
From the usual source:
"The first generation of the Capri was a captive import produced by Ford of Europe in Cologne, Germany. Introduced in Europe for 1968 (and designed by Ford of Britain using local sourced components from the Cortina MkII and Escort with plans dating back to 1964 when development of a European variant of the Mustang commenced), the Ford Capri was marketed by the Lincoln-Mercury Division starting in April 1970."

To be fair I thought that front end looked Capri-like and didn't actually realize where the Capri got the styling cues until I looked it up in "the usual source"
And don't recall ever seeing that early European Escort, so as a "car guy" I thank you for making me look!

And after all that it just hit me that that was probably Honda's styling target for the Civic:

Or heck, maybe it was the other way 'round!

OK, the Euro Escort precedes that by 4 years except for the quad lamps:

And what's an Autotune?
From the usual source:
"Auto-Tune is an audio processor created by, and registered trademark[4] of Antares Audio Technologies which uses a proprietary device to measure and alter pitch in vocal and instrumental music recording and performances.[5] It was originally intended to disguise or correct off-key inaccuracies, allowing vocal tracks to be perfectly tuned despite originally being slightly off-pitch.
Starting with Cher's 1998 hit "Believe", producers began to use Auto-Tune as a sound effect, to deliberately distort vocals. "
This alone was enough to condemn its inventor to eternal damnation.
Or at least that producer.

Al, in your car photo post, the first green one looks like a Maverick!

Really? Oh, now I see why!:

The green one was the Capri, the first yellow one was the Euro Escort, so now suspect US Ford freely borrowed from the Euro Escort front end style fro the Maverick.
There's a term for that kind of headlamp treatment, but I forget what it is.
They're almost "frenched" as in sunk into their surrounds, and by golly similar ideas were used on the AMC Hornet's front end(and body too!)

and even the much-maligned Pacer, too! (which was why I always thought the Pacer's face was OK)
(but only from just the right angle):

My grandmother had a base model Maverick. Years later, I still have no comment... :emptiness:

They are in fact gaining a cult following due to the V-8 option they had in the "Grabber" (meaning a V-8 can be fitted into any of 'em), and being a subcompact rear-wheel drive platform (Nowadays just as big as some current "full size" offerings), something extremely rare these days in new cars (as opposed to trucks).
Actually, like the Mustang, based on the 1960 Falcon platform.
Back in the day of V8 Camaros/Firebirds/Mustangs/Chargers they just didn't get no street creds.
Heck these days I'd even love to see what could be done to perk up their inline-6, an inherently torquey configuration that stood BMW and Jaguar in good stead for decades.
In fact Richard Rawlins (Gas Monkey Garage) did just that with the Maverick's stablemate Mercury Comet a couple of seasons back:

It was a nostalgia build commemorating his first car in high school.
That Gas Monkey Green paint wasn't too far removed from the factory original shade, either:

To come full circle, the Finns are no strangers to hotrod love, having a lively domestic culture of their own:

And no lack of humorous builds:

My mom had a 1976 Mercury Capri Ghia. That was a solid little car that was fast, and fun to drive. I think after my folks split she traded it in on a Buick Regal, which was none of those things.

p.s. - Al, nice work getting the thread back to "Finnish" and "humor" with just one photo!!
