Pulled the trigger on another 3 a.m. D-70 at a much better price than the one I bought a few months ago.

This sounds unreal!! I'd hate to A/B it with my other at home because

Couple things bother me....

Action is a bit high

Crack on treble side lower bout top of body

Evidence of neck reset?

No fret markers on maple binding

Not sure if my 82 has mitred corners on maple binding.

I love your outlook--you always see more good than bad. Nice "click" at 3:00 AM.
And the 91 year old who crushed is D35---and you offered the guitar for free---is playing and singing again on a nice little Alvarez.

Ok,

As usual my posts weren't exactly clear.

I am a bit worried that it may have a neck reset due to the scars on the neck/body joint and what doesn't look like a natural placement for the neck relative to the soundhole..(am I as clear as mud yet).

I laughed when I realized I posted a picture of the treble side saying there are no fret markings on the binding. there are none on bass side either.

there also seems to be a bit of a sunken area treble side fret board/soundboard junction.

But holy moly, it sure sounds sweet.

It was shipped tuned to D, I brought it up to D# to ease it up a bit and left it there.

Wow sounds good in D#.

I can't keep both.

Someone talk me down.

I'm sure you know by now you can't really judge that until you know if the neck alignment's good and how tall the saddle is...

Crack on treble side lower bout top of body
Didn't see pic but we'll hope it just needs a cleat

Evidence of neck reset?
Ok, that one, it does look like it, especially because it looks like a thin line of finish was applied over the broken seam for full cosmetic completion of job.
Those enlarged photos really help on my full-size monitor.

No fret markers on maple binding
Still, it "just looks right" and I've been right about that far more often than not, in past.
Also the seam along edge of fretboard looks like typical immaculate Westerly workmanship.
I'd just chalk it up to a variation in production.

Not sure if my 82 has mitred corners on maple binding.
Think that came up somewhere else recently, and I still say it "just looks right".
Neck seems to go a tad too far south into sound hole..
My first reaction was that it was just a fluke of the binding width, but after realizing it probably had a re-set, thought maybe it was an unavoidable result of that.

Any advice??

Crack doesn't show in pictures.

Wrap it in a towel and throw it off a bridge.

I really don't want to throw out a perfectly good towel.

Is it just me or are those pics possibly reversed?
The second one looks like "plenty'o'saddle" but it's so big it might be fooling me?
Is the TRC ok or has somebody managed to deflower the truss rod, too?
I'm a fairly broadminded man but even I have my limits.

Yeah that tears it.
Belongs in a pawn shop, now.
I'd cut my losses and run.
You did say "talk you out of it", right?
BTW, if you could let us know which pawn shop it winds up in, I'll be sure to go in and lo-ball 'em with an offer, just to mess with 'em.

So did I understand you now have 2 x D70s?

Well, they did make them for more than 1 year....

It was at GC, I figured take a shot, lose $20 if it was a turd. If good, decide what to do after.

I am a bit worried about the fret board creeping into the sound hole. NONE of my other gits do that.

I do have 14 days, ( I asked), to rehydrate etc. before I have to bring back.

I don't think the fretboard can be creeping into the soundhole. If that was happening to the degree we see in your pics, the intonation would be WAY, WAY off.

Though I'm not aware of Guilds being built that way, many guitars are made with the top fret partially overlapping the soundhole.

So maybe the fretboard was replaced? Possibly when / if it had the neck reset?

For heaven's sake, just take it to your luthier to check it out when you get it...then you can think about making your decision...good luck.

Gotta get up that early to get to work.

I'm not sure if it is a nice score or not, too much $$. I'm not a flipper or a dealer. I'm don't have, say, an Acornhouse level of talent or the discerning eye of a Texbumper or Rayk

It really sounds great but I have a feelin' all ain't right.

I'll go see McBlane this weekend if I can.

Was just hoping someone could chime in on what to me was obvious.

Thank you Adorshki for all your observations

Ok, I'll do that, just thought it may have been of some interest for some of the folks here to take a peek at a good looking Guild and start a discussion relative to some things I found odd.
