Hey there,

I'm currently looking at a Starfire.

It's a lovely guitar, buy I'm slightly confused on what model it is and it's year.

The inside label quotes SF - X500
And the serial is 720016
There is also a pressed no. on the back of the headstock 0016

Can anyone shed any light? It would be highly appreciated.

Cheers,

Ed

I'm eager to hear about this one. It might not be possible to get too far without good pictures, though, as the details you've given don't make much sense, at least not to me.

Welcome Edd!
As DTC said, we’re going to need pics or a link on this one. The Starfire and X-500 models are two entirely different models. Pics should help to clear things up better.

Interesting. I am by no means an expert, but questions I would ask the experts are:

Truss rod cover, pickups, control knobs and Bigsby don't strike me as original. Am I wrong?

Headstock shape is not what I would expect. Pickguard seems wrong.

Tuners might be wrong.

Pressed serial doesn't look like the dies Guild typically used to stamp.

Chesterfield doesn't look right.

Label looks wrong - "G" in Guild and printed, rather than handwritten serial.

Might be missing a master volume.

My knee jerk reaction is to say it is one of the most ambitious fakes we have ever seen, But it could also be highly modified post-factory or assembled from parts.

Yeah, there's lots that don't look right about that guitar.

DeArmond headstock inlay, big, square frets, DeArmond USA humbuckers, print your own label. It's a DeArmond starfire.

Funny phantasy label...Definitely not made in USA but Korea.

Bottom line: Somebody heavily "modified" a Dearmond Starfire trying to be a Guild...

It's a shame these fakes are out there, but they are.
