I think the Gibson Moderne (which was on Norman’s GOTD last week) has THE worst headstock. But, it also has string diverters. Maybe that’s what the extra holes were for.

Or this one? I kind of like this one. Looks like a canoe paddle:

I have an Ibanez "copy" of the Moderne. The Futura, it's named…after, oddly enough, an early version of the Explorer. It's got the very Guild-y headstock Ibanez has sometimes used. The wacko tuner config in Gibson's Moderne drawings is among the things that lead me to doubt any were actually made (in the late '50s, that is).

Great writeup on the X79V. In the past couple years I've become a fan of low & wide frets.

Just wrapping up all the threads about the X97V.

Here is GAD and I making the final exchange of the X97V in the parking lot of an un-disclosed Diner in the wilds of North Jersey.

It will now be entombed in the Guilds of Grot vault available for viewing by invitation or request only.

Interesting theory:

This kinda' leaves me speechless. It is very cool, though, how ultimately the strings are pulling straight through the nut because of the "diverters." I never even heard of that term before Chris just mentioned it. This headstock clearly wouldn't function without them.

...and that fretboard is super nice.
