I used to play these on my D-25 before they quit making them. That's when I switched to D'Addario's, but that's another whole discussion...forget I mentioned that.

Convinced, "It ain't the arrows but the Indian" that can make a guitar sound good. There is a you tube floating around of a (young to me) fellow whose friend video him in WalMart playing one of WalMart's $29.95 flat tops with catgut strings and impressive.

It was a good gimmick that sold a bunch of strings for a while. "Never coiled," hmmm, did they obtain their raw wire on long flatbed trains, or did their wire come in coils like everyone else's? LOL

I haven't looked lately,but there used to be a high end brand of violin strings that came straight packed in a clear plastic tube. I guess the same marketing ploy, only a lot more expensive.
