Inspired by the "Boring Finishes" thread.
Things've been a little quiet around here lately, anyway.
So, it's not just guitars and lawn furniture that have become downright ennui-inspiring in the last couple of decades, car interiors are guaranteed to offend no one as well.
It started to sink in when I was looking at Cadillac ATS' a couple of years back, and decided since silver only comes with a black interior and blue and white weren't any better, I'd wait a while.
In fact, checking just now shows they only offer black interior.
Sure they're dropping it for 2019 but talk about hobbling your own feet sales wise.....I mean at least I think they offered a red a couple of years back, but again, not in my 3 primary exterior choices.
Ok, RWD w/IRS at sub-BMW prices? How about a Mustang?
If I can get past the deletion of the V6 option, I can get a white or black interior.
I ain't even gonna go see if I can still get a butternut interior with blue paint from BMW, like my '01 325i.
I'm cursed with the memory of my '91 Thunderbird Supercoupe: Silver exterior with gorgeous sky blue leather interior.

Those are 8-way power adjustables even for the passenger BTW, even those side boulsters are power adjust.
Clamp you in nice'n'tight.
Recaro eat your heart out.
And the first time I ever saw a Cadillac I actually wanted to live with for a few days to see if it was a good fit, was a '67 gold (of course) Eldorado that had been brought to the dealership I worked at as a trade-in.
Like this one:

But what really knocked me on my heels when I went to check out the the interior was this:

I finally started to really "get" Cadillac....
You could get this too:

Or this, a couple of years later:

Running out of image allocation. See next post.

I agree with the boring part, but I also have to say that I don't miss those days. Those interiors are pretty awful in an "Oh look - the '70s!" kind of way.

Of course Cadillac wasn't the only one to offer such an embarrassment of riches, so to speak.
But they had some really good s--t, in the vernacular of the '70's.
You really could feel like you were sitting on your rumpus room couch, in your car:

Or get 2-tone interiors even into the '70's from Lincoln:

and Caddy:

Oldsmobiles, still being your father's car, finally arrived in the '60's by 1978:

And be glad I'm not a Porsche fan:

I have decided to hell with body styling, suspension performance and engine type and output anymore.
I'm all about interiors, now.
They may not be your cup of tea but they sure as hell aren't boring.......

This 1960 Pontiac (or at least the Aussie Holden version of it) probably inspired AC/DC's "Girl's Got Rhythm":

ahhh....here's a Holden (for Coastie, on the next island over):

I like the last two. Check out those bench seats with no seatbelts or headrests!

Nice trip down memory lane, Al!

Well it started off as a rant, but yeah, I figured most folks here could relate.
'66 AMC Marlin:

A real swinging upgrade from the '65:

But
"Wouldn't I really rather have a Buick?":

Or a '64 Mercury Montclair Marauder (Now there's an identity conflicted car!):

1960 Continental:

'67 Citroen "Mellow Yellow" edition:

How could you not arrive at work in a cheerful mood after commuting in that?

"Opulence....I has it!"

And to complete the total car package, you could add a super plush padded vinyl top to your Cadillac too. Chrysler's bright "paisley" pattern vinyl tops were the bomb!

Yeah, I miss the good old days when you could buy a real bad to the bone muscle car with a paisley pattern interior, paisley pattern vinyl top, steel wheel rims with dog dish hubcaps, etc. right off the showroom floor. How times and tastes have changed.

ooooh. Volkswagen just gained back a bunch of cred with me, seriously but with all humorous intent too.
Found this, '84:

I wonder if the plaid theme is a connection to the 914, itself originally intended to be a VW item before being hijacked by Porsche:

oooohhhhh!
I see I can get blue in a Tesla model 3 if I could live with that g-dawful display:

Nope. Absolutely out of the question.

Googling "paisley vinyl top" shows some great stuff.

Right.
Interestingly, only Ford and Chrysler did it.
Seems GM treated their paisley like Victoria's unmentionables, interior use only.....
What's that, Ford you say?
yep, uber-rare Mustang option:

And given Steve McQueen's sartorial selections in Bullitt, maybe we should have had the Bullitt Cougar:
