Was watching a video of Dave Gregory from XTC talking about his vintage guitars. He was discussing his Firebird V (non-reverse) and that, as with all Gibsons, you have to find the one good one out of a dozen (his words, don't want to start that conversation up again in this thread.) He finished with this, which I loved:
"It's all in the wood; that's where the biggest source of the sound is. You wouldn't think that two pieces of timber would have any acoustic properties at all, but in my opinion, and my experience, that is the most important thing. You can spend thousands on pickups, pedals, amps, but if you haven't got the tree, its not going to be a great guitar."
